How to choose the appropriate lubricant for Hanyi ball spline

1. Consider the working environment temperature
High temperature environment: If the ball spline works in a high temperature environment (such as metallurgical equipment, transmission devices near certain high-temperature industrial furnaces, etc.), it is generally necessary to choose a high-temperature resistant lubricant. Generally, synthetic oil-based grease is a good choice, such as polyurea grease, which can maintain good lubrication performance at high temperatures of 150 ℃ -200 ℃. These lubricating greases have excellent thermal stability, which can prevent oxidation and decomposition at high temperatures, avoiding lubrication failure and excessive wear of ball splines.
Low temperature environment: For ball splines used in low-temperature environments (such as in some refrigeration equipment, polar scientific research equipment, etc.), lubricants should have good low-temperature flowability. Generally speaking, lubricating grease containing low viscosity base oil is more suitable, such as lubricating grease based on silicone oil. They will not solidify at low temperatures and can ensure good lubrication for ball splines at -40 ℃ or even lower temperatures.
2. Based on the load situation
High load situation: When the ball spline is subjected to large radial or axial loads (such as in heavy-duty machine tools, large injection molding machines, etc.), lubricants with high extreme pressure performance should be selected. Lubricating grease containing extreme pressure additives (such as sulfur, phosphorus, and other compounds) can form a protective film under high loads, preventing direct contact between metal surfaces and reducing friction and wear. For example, molybdenum disulfide (MoS ₂) grease is a common high extreme pressure grease that can effectively reduce the friction coefficient of ball splines under high load conditions.
Low load situation: For low load ball splines, ordinary lithium based grease can meet the lubrication requirements. Lithium based grease has good wear resistance and lubrication performance, which can provide stable lubrication for ball splines, while the cost is relatively low.
3. Consider operating speed
High speed operation: When the ball spline is running at high speed (such as high-speed robot joints, certain high-speed automated production line equipment, etc.), it is necessary to choose lubricants with good wear resistance and centrifugal force resistance. Lubricants with high oil film strength can maintain the integrity of the oil film during high-speed operation, preventing direct contact between metals. Generally, synthetic lubricants with low viscosity and high purity are used, and specialized lubrication systems such as oil mist lubrication or oil air lubrication may be required to ensure that the lubricant can be evenly distributed on the working surface of the ball spline.
Low speed operation condition: For ball splines that operate at low speeds, the requirement for lubricant resistance to centrifugal force is relatively low. You can use lubricating grease with slightly higher viscosity, which can better adhere to the surface of the ball and raceway, providing continuous lubrication. four Consider the medium conditions of the work environment
Environment with chemical corrosion risk: If the ball spline works in an environment with the presence of chemical substances (such as corrosive liquids or gases such as acids, alkalis, etc.) (such as chemical equipment, electroplating equipment, etc.), it is necessary to choose lubricants with good chemical stability. Perfluoropolyether grease is a great choice as it has excellent chemical corrosion resistance and can resist the erosion of various strong acids and alkalis, protecting ball splines from chemical corrosion.
Moist or dusty environment: In humid environments (such as underwater equipment, ship equipment, etc.), lubricants should have good waterproof performance to prevent moisture from entering the interior of the ball spline, causing rust and lubrication failure. For dusty environments such as mining machinery, construction machinery, etc., lubricants are needed to prevent the invasion of dust and other impurities. In this case, lubricating grease containing sealing additives can be selected, which can form a protective film on the surface of the ball spline to prevent dust and moisture from entering.
5. Consider the service life and maintenance cycle
Long life requirement: If the ball spline needs to work for a long time and is not easy to maintain frequently (such as in some aerospace equipment, underwater observation equipment, etc.), it is necessary to choose lubricants with long life. Some synthetic lubricating greases with special formulas, combined with advanced additive technology, can maintain good lubrication performance for a long time and reduce maintenance frequency.
Short cycle maintenance situation: For ball splines in equipment that are easy to maintain regularly, when selecting lubricants, cost and other factors can be considered more on the basis of meeting basic lubrication requirements. For example, in some ordinary industrial equipment, regular replacement of ordinary lubricating grease can meet the requirements.
