1. Consider load conditions
Light load scenario: If the load in the application scenario is small, such as small office equipment (such as the paper transport mechanism of a small printer) or certain auxiliary moving parts in lightweight automation equipment, micro ball splines are a good choice. It usually has a smaller size and lower load-bearing capacity, but is sufficient to handle linear motion and torque transmission under light loads. -For some precision instruments, such as the focusing device of an optical microscope, although the load is light, it requires extremely high precision. At this point, a precision solid spline shaft ball spline should be selected to ensure high-precision motion control through precision ground rolling grooves.
Medium to high load scenarios: In the field of heavy machinery, such as the worktable feed system of large CNC machine tools, the boom amplitude mechanism of cranes, etc., large shaft diameter ball splines are required. A larger shaft diameter means higher load-bearing capacity and rigidity, capable of withstanding larger radial and axial loads, ensuring stable operation of the equipment under high loads. -At the same time, for high load scenarios, the ball arrangement and contact angle of the ball spline should also be considered. For example, using a double row ball structure or a ball spline with a larger contact angle can effectively improve the load-bearing capacity.
2. Consider the type of motion and accuracy requirements
Linear motion scenario: If the application is mainly linear motion, such as material conveying devices in automated production lines, infinite stroke ball splines are more suitable. It can meet the requirements of long-distance linear motion and can be flexibly designed and installed according to the actual travel length. -For scenarios requiring high-precision linear motion, such as chip assembly equipment for precision electronic devices, it is necessary to choose ball splines with low friction coefficient and high-precision manufacturing processes. This can be achieved by selecting spline shafts that have undergone precision grinding and high-precision ball bearings to ensure the accuracy and repeatability of the motion.
Rotating motion scenario: In equipment that requires rotational motion, such as connecting components between motors and mechanical devices, the rotational accuracy and torsional stiffness of ball splines should be considered. Both cylindrical and flange type ball splines can be used for rotational motion, with the flange type having more advantages in fixed installation and effectively preventing clearance in the direction of rotation. -For some equipment that requires extremely high rotational accuracy, such as the rotating mechanism of precision astronomical telescopes, ball splines with high rotational accuracy and low rotational resistance should be selected, and they may need to be pre tightened to eliminate gaps and improve rotational accuracy.
Composite motion scenario: When the device needs to perform both linear and rotational movements simultaneously, such as the joints of a robot, integrated ball splines or rotating nut ball splines are a better choice. These types of ball splines can achieve complex motion control within a compact structure, meeting the needs of flexible robot movement.
3. Consider work environment factors
High temperature environment: Ball splines that work in high-temperature environments such as transmission equipment near heating furnaces in the metallurgical industry and some transmission mechanisms in aircraft engines need to have good high-temperature resistance. High temperature resistant materials should be used to manufacture ball splines, such as special alloy materials for spline shafts and spline sleeves, and high-temperature resistant lubricants such as polyurea grease should be selected.
Low temperature environment: For equipment working in cold environments, such as motion mechanisms in polar scientific research equipment and logistics conveying equipment in frozen warehouses, the performance of ball splines at low temperatures should be considered. Lubricants with good low-temperature fluidity should be selected, such as lubricating grease based on silicone oil, and it should be ensured that the material of the ball spline does not become brittle at low temperatures, which affects its performance. Wet or corrosive environment: In wet or corrosive environments such as chemical equipment and underwater work equipment, it is necessary to choose ball splines with good waterproof and anti-corrosion performance. It is possible to use spline shafts and spline sleeves with anti-corrosion coatings on the surface, such as galvanized, chrome plated, and other coatings. At the same time, use lubricants with good chemical corrosion resistance such as perfluoropolyether grease to prevent corrosion of ball splines.
4. Consider space limitations and installation requirements
Compact space scenario: In applications with limited space such as small electronic devices and micro machinery, cylindrical ball splines are a good choice. Its compact structure enables motion transmission in a small space. In addition, the integrated ball spline is also suitable for compact spaces, as it integrates the nut and spline shaft into one unit, reducing installation space.
Scenarios that require high installation convenience: If you want a simple and fast installation process, flange type ball splines are more suitable. Whether it is a circular flange or a flange type, the outer cylinder can be easily fixed on the support seat through the flange, especially in situations where there is a risk of deformation during keyway processing or where the width of the support seat is relatively narrow, which can effectively prevent the occurrence of rotational clearance in the mating part.
