1. Oil lubrication
Application method: This is one of the most common lubrication methods. When installing the ball spline, apply an appropriate amount of lubricating grease directly to the ball groove of the ball and spline shaft, as well as the inner surface of the spline sleeve. For example, using a specialized grease gun or brush, evenly fill the lubricating grease onto the rolling path of the ball. This method is easy to operate, cost-effective, and suitable for ball splines with low rotational speed, low load, and relatively stable working environment.
Oil type selection: Choose the appropriate oil based on the working environment and requirements of the ball spline. In high temperature environments, high-temperature resistant polyurea grease can be used; In low-temperature environments, lubricating grease based on silicone oil can maintain good fluidity, ensuring lubrication effectiveness at low temperatures. For high load situations, lubricating grease containing extreme pressure additives (such as molybdenum disulfide) can enhance lubrication performance and reduce wear.
Oil replenishment cycle: Oil lubrication requires regular replenishment of oil. The replenishment cycle depends on factors such as working environment, load, and speed. In general industrial environments, ball splines with low rotational speed and low load may be lubricated every few months; In harsh environments or under high loads and high speeds, it may be necessary to replenish more frequently, such as every few weeks or even days.
2. Oil bath lubrication
Working principle: Soak a part of the ball spline (such as the lower part of the flower key shaft) in a lubricating oil pool, and through the rotation of the ball, lubricating oil is brought to the rolling contact area for lubrication. This method ensures that the ball and raceway are always covered by lubricating oil, providing good lubrication effect. For example, in some large low-speed heavy-duty mechanical equipment, oil bath lubrication can effectively reduce friction and wear.
Lubricant selection: Choosing the appropriate lubricant is crucial. Generally, the viscosity, wear resistance, and oxidation resistance of lubricating oil should be considered. For high-speed ball splines, it is advisable to use low viscosity lubricating oil to reduce oil resistance and energy loss; For high load situations, lubricating oil with good extreme pressure performance should be selected.
Oil level control: In oil bath lubrication, it is necessary to control the oil level well. Excessive oil level may cause the lubricating oil to stir and generate too much heat, increasing energy loss; If the oil level is too low, it cannot guarantee sufficient lubrication for the ball spline. Usually, it is necessary to ensure that the key lubrication parts of the ball spline (such as the rolling area of the ball) can fully contact the lubricating oil during operation.
3. Oil mist lubrication
Composition of lubrication system: Oil mist lubrication is an efficient lubrication method. It atomizes lubricating oil through a specialized oil mist generator, forming tiny oil mist particles, which are then transported through pipelines to the lubrication area of the ball spline. These oil mist particles will condense into an oil film on the surface of the ball and raceway during the movement of the ball spline, providing lubrication.
Advantages and applicable scenarios: Oil mist lubrication can provide good cooling effect because oil mist can take away some heat while lubricating. This lubrication method is suitable for ball splines in high-speed and high-temperature environments, such as transmission components of high-speed machine tools. Due to the precise reach of oil mist to the lubrication area, it is possible to reduce the amount of lubricating oil while ensuring the lubrication effect.
Attention: Oil mist lubrication requires attention to the concentration and particle size of the oil mist. Excessive concentration of oil mist may cause environmental pollution and increase the risk of fire; The size of oil mist particles should be moderate. If they are too small, they may not effectively condense into an oil film, while if they are too large, they may not be evenly distributed in the lubrication area.
4. Oil air lubrication
Working mechanism: The oil air lubrication system mixes trace amounts of lubricating oil in the form of oil droplets with compressed air to form an oil air mixture, which is then transported through pipelines to the lubrication parts of the ball spline. When the ball spline works, compressed air allows oil droplets to better adhere to the surface of the ball and raceway, forming an oil film. Compared with oil mist lubrication, oil air lubrication has larger oil droplets, which is more conducive to forming a stable oil film in high-speed and high load environments.
Application scope and advantages: Oil air lubrication is suitable for high-speed, high load, high-precision ball splines. For example, in the joint parts of some precision CNC machine tools and high-speed robots, oil air lubrication can provide good lubrication and cooling effects, while also effectively preventing impurities from entering the interior of the ball spline. It can precisely control the amount of lubricating oil, avoid waste, and the maintenance of the system is relatively simple.
