Do you know about splines?
Any component has an undeniable function, and if it can be temporarily ignored, it is that it has not been damaged yet.
The spline connection consists of internal splines and external splines. Both the internal and external splines are multi tooth parts, with the splines on the inner cylindrical surface being internal splines and the splines on the outer cylindrical surface being external splines.
Obviously, spline connection is the development of flat key connection in terms of number. The spline is a standard structure.
Flat key connection is commonly used for connecting gears or couplings with interference fit to shafts.
Usually, spline connections do not have interference fit, so the connected parts need to be fixed axially.
Spline Quick Easy You has a high load-bearing capacity and good alignment for spline connections, but the manufacturing cost is high and requires specialized cutting tools for processing.
Due to differences in structural form and manufacturing process, compared with flat key connections, spline connections have the following characteristics in terms of strength, process, and usage:
Because more teeth and grooves are directly and uniformly made on the shaft and hub hole, the force on the spline connection is relatively uniform;
Due to the shallow groove, there is less stress concentration at the tooth root, resulting in less weakening of the strength of the shaft and hub;
With a large number of teeth and a relatively large total contact area, it can withstand significant loads;
Good alignment between the components on the shaft and the shaft is important for high-speed and precision machines; Good guidance is important for dynamic connections;
Grinding methods can be used to improve machining accuracy and connection quality; The manufacturing process is complex and sometimes requires specialized equipment, resulting in high costs.
Applicable occasions: Connections that require high centering accuracy, transmit large torque, or frequently slip.
In mechanical drawing, the drawing of key teeth for splines is quite cumbersome.
In order to improve the efficiency of drawing, many countries have formulated spline drawing standards, and ISO standards have also been developed internationally.
The national standard for mechanical drawing in China stipulates that for rectangular splines, the outer splines should be drawn with thick solid lines for the major diameter and thin solid lines for the minor diameter in a projection plane parallel to the axis, and a part or all of the tooth profile should be drawn with a cross-section;
In the cross-sectional view of the projection plane parallel to the axis, the major and minor diameters of the internal spline are drawn with thick solid lines, and a partial or complete tooth profile is drawn with a partial view (Figure 1 [Drawing Method of Rectangular Spline]).
The end of the working length of the spline and the end of the tail length are both drawn with thin solid lines. For involute splines, the drawing method is basically the same as that of rectangular splines, but it is necessary to draw the dividing circle and dividing line with dotted lines.
