When it comes to ball splines, many people know their operating principle, which is to use the balls inside the outer cylinder of the spline shaft to achieve smooth rolling motion transmission torque in precision ground rolling grooves, and has high sensitivity.
But what you may not be familiar with is that ball splines are actually very suitable for use in high-speed motion environments and scenarios with high positioning accuracy requirements, because ball splines have the ability to significantly increase load. So compared to linear rail sleeves, ball splines can withstand higher rated loads, but from a design perspective, their size is smaller, so they have a wide range of applications.
The spline shaft in the ball spline plays a crucial role in the entire structure. Its composition and function are: the spline shaft has longitudinal key slots on the outer surface of the shaft, and the rotating parts fitted on the shaft also have corresponding key slots, which can maintain synchronous rotation with the shaft.
Since the ball spline shaft is so important, how is it processed? Today, let's talk in detail about the machining method of spline shaft!
There are many processing methods for spline shafts on the market now, but strictly speaking, they are mainly cutting methods such as rolling, milling, and grinding, as well as plastic deformation processing methods such as cold rolling and cold rolling.
Let's talk about cutting methods.
The first method is rolling cutting
This processing method involves rolling splines on a spline shaft milling machine or gear hobbing machine using the unfolding method
The second method is milling
Milling machines have always had a universal function, so the ball spline shaft is directly milled out of the tooth profile on the milling machine with a specialized forming milling cutter, and milled tooth by tooth with a dividing head; If a form milling cutter is not used, two disc milling cutters can be used to mill both sides of one tooth at the same time. After milling each tooth, a disc milling cutter can be used to slightly adjust the bottom diameter.
The third grinding method
Grind the spline tooth side and bottom diameter on the spline shaft grinder with a shaped grinding wheel.
